Our Vision
Be a catalyst for sustainable community-driven change to build a healthy future with empowerment for all.
Our Mission
To serve as a trusted community leader by leveraging resources in support of collaborative solutions.
Our History
The spirit of giving in Pueblo began in 1923, when local community leaders raised $105,000 by going door to door. Originally known as the Community Chest, the effort evolved over the years, becoming the Single Fund, then the United Fund, and today, United Way of Pueblo County (UWPC). While the name has changed, our mission remains the same: to make it easier for people to give to one organization that supports a wide range of vital community services.
United Way of Pueblo County is locally and completely autonomous, guided by a dedicated board of directors and shaped by the needs of our community.
Our strength lies in the power of community-wide collaboration. Each year, we rely on passionate volunteers to address Pueblo County’s most pressing challenges by partnering with local health and human service agencies. These knowledgeable volunteers also help ensure responsible stewardship of every dollar donated.
We focus our efforts in four priority areas:
-
Economic Mobility & Opportunity
-
Youth Success
-
Crisis Intervention
-
Nonprofit Capacity Building
Thanks to the generosity of donors over the past century, thousands of individuals and families have received the support they need to thrive.
Today, UWPC proudly serves 17 counties across Colorado, including:
Alamosa, Baca, Bent, Chaffee, Crowley, Custer, Eagle (one ZIP code), Fremont, Garfield, Huerfano, Kiowa, Las Animas, Otero, Pitkin, Pueblo, Prowers, and Rio Grande.
Values Statement
Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are foundational to the work we do at United Way of Pueblo County. We have always stood for coming together to support one another in times of need, advocating for equity, strengthening, and healing for all. We recognize structural racism, ethnic discrimination, and other forms of oppression have contributed to disparities that persist in the present and have marginalized entire populations of people. UWPC opposes all forms of racism/ethnic discrimination, as it directly undermines the well-being and vitality of our community and beyond.
Shared, community-driven goals can only be accomplished when barriers based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities no longer predict socioeconomic, education, and health outcomes. We are committed to continually learn and ensure our processes, partnerships, and programming reflect this commitment to actively serving all populations, particularly the commonly disadvantaged and underserved.
