4th Annual Aztlán Research Center Summer Institute

We are so excited to invite you to the 4th Annual Aztlán Research Center Summer Institute on July 29, 2024.  This year’s Institute will explore the relationship between language and identity through the lens of a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in Southern Colorado. We will learn about our communities’ experiences with the Spanish language, including those who speak it as a native tongue, those whose ancestors spoke it and feel deeply connected, and those who are learning it in a classroom setting. Topics will also include a discussion of the unique Spanish spoken in Southern Colorado and examples of poetry and storytelling from the region. Finally, we will learn about the concept of “linguistic servingness” as a framework for serving students and its application at an institution in Colorado to showcase best practices. This one-day workshop will provide professional development for CSU Pueblo faculty and staff. It will also be informative for students and community members. All are welcome. There is no cost for the Institute, which is supported by CSU Pueblo Library and the Office of Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives.
